There’s a particular kind of beauty to the Haliburton Highlands in autumn. Dense woodlots erupt in colour, isolated lakes reflect an increasingly restless sky, and old cabins slowly surrender themselves back to the landscape. Around Kennisis Lake, the terrain feels rugged, remote and wonderfully unpolished. Weathered timber, rock, water and forest all seem to belong to the same palette, particularly as summer gives way to fall. These photographs are about that transition: the colour, solitude and unmistakable rustic character of a part of Ontario that seems perfectly comfortable being left alone.
