My teaching practice brings together creative thinking, design, technology, entrepreneurship, and the realities of professional practice - with one fairly simple objective: help students develop the skills, confidence, curiosity, and judgment to take their ideas somewhere meaningful.
I currently develop and teach curriculum across several Canadian post-secondary institutions in graphic design, typography, portfolio development, entrepreneurship, business design, and generative AI.
The subjects vary.
The goal doesn’t.
A good idea matters.
Knowing how to make it real matters too.
I believe effective creative education lives somewhere between conceptual thinking and technical mastery. Strong ideas need the skills, tools, and production knowledge required to bring them to life. Technical ability, meanwhile, means considerably less without curiosity, critical thinking, and something worth communicating.
So I teach both.
My courses combine design theory, conceptual development, professional production methods, and hands-on experience with the tools students will actually encounter beyond the classroom.
Think well.
Make well.
Know why you did the thing.
Creative Work Rarely Arrives Fully Formed
It gets sketched, questioned, tested, criticized, revised, occasionally reconsidered entirely, and eventually made better.
I structure my courses the same way.
Students are encouraged to develop work iteratively through ideation, critique, feedback, revision, and refinement rather than treating an assignment as something produced once and handed in at the finish line.
It’s closer to the way creative work actually happens professionally – and it teaches something considerably more valuable than simply getting an assignment right.
It teaches students how to make their own work better.
Subject Matters
My teaching spans the places where creative thinking, technical execution, and professional practice intersect.
Graphic Design
Concept development, visual communication, composition, production, and the fundamentals that make everything else work.
Typography
Making language visible – and understanding why choosing a typeface is only the beginning.
Portfolio Development
Helping students edit, refine, present, and articulate their work in preparation for whatever comes next.
Entrepreneurship + Business Design
The practical side of creative practice: positioning, freelancing, business development, communication, and turning creative ability into sustainable professional opportunity.
Generative AI
Exploring emerging tools critically and practically: what they can do, where they fit, where they don’t, and how creative professionals can use them thoughtfully.
Adobe Creative Cloud + Production
Building practical fluency in the tools and workflows required to move an idea from concept through production without everything going horribly sideways.

Different People
Different Perspectives
After more than a decade in post-secondary education, I’ve taught students from an extraordinary range of cultural, linguistic, educational, and professional backgrounds.
That diversity makes the classroom better.
Creative work is shaped by experience, perspective, culture, curiosity, and the way each of us sees the world. A classroom where those differences are respected and encouraged produces richer conversations, stronger ideas, and better work.
My responsibility is to create an environment where students understand what is expected of them, have meaningful opportunities to participate, receive constructive feedback, and can access the guidance they need to develop.
Students don’t all arrive at the same place.
They shouldn’t be expected to take exactly the same path forward.

Teaching keeps me curious. It requires me to question what I know, stay current with what’s changing, and continually reconsider how creative skills are best learned, practiced, and applied. That's part of why I enjoy it so much.
I remain actively engaged in teaching, curriculum development, mentorship, and the evolving relationship between creativity, technology, and professional practice – and I’m always interested in the right opportunity to contribute something useful to the conversation.
For Context Yet, Completely Irrelevant
I've never lost a game of Boggle. My sister may dispute this.
