Birch Island
Birch Island rises from Lake Joseph with a kind of rugged confidence. Rock, water and dense forest compete for space across terrain that feels both beautiful and unapologetically severe. At its edge, one remarkable tree seems to have claimed the landscape for itself, shaped by years of wind, weather and exposure. It was impossible not to make it the centre of the photograph. A small piece of Muskoka that somehow manages to feel monumental.
